How to Open a File in Photoshop

How to Open a File in Photoshop

For this assignment, it says “Get to Know the App in Photoshop.” You need to click on the link that says you can download the Photoshop image here. Click on that, and it will bring up a dialog box. Download the file by clicking on the download button.

You need to know where the file is being saved. Generally, it should go into your Downloads folder. Save it, and confirm where it’s going. I see it’s going into my Downloads folder, so I’ll save it there. Now I can click out of this window and open Photoshop.

There are a couple of ways to get the image into Photoshop:

1. Using Finder:

Open Finder (the little face icon) and go to your Downloads folder. Find the file and drag it into Photoshop. For example, if the file is named “Get to Know the App 2.psd,” make sure that’s the one you drag into Photoshop.

2. Using File > Open:

If you’re in Photoshop, you can go up to File > Open. Navigate to your Downloads folder, find the file, select it, and click Open. That’s another way to open your photo.

3. Using Right-Click:

If you have right-click enabled on your mouse, you can find the file, right-click on it, and select Open With > Photoshop.

• If right-click isn’t enabled on your Mac, here’s how to enable it:

• Go to System Settings (the gear icon).

• Scroll down to Mouse and click on it.

• Look for the Secondary Click option and set it to Click Right Side.

Once this is set, you can right-click on the file and choose Open With > Photoshop.

Now that your file is in Photoshop, if you want to make the photo full size on your screen, press Command + 0 (zero). This will fit the image to your screen. To make it smaller, press Command - (minus). To zoom in, press Command + (plus). If you hold down the spacebar, you can move the image around on your screen. Again, Command + 0 resets the image to fit the screen.

Hopefully, this is helpful in getting a picture into Photoshop!
